Mayor’s Fund issues an open call for grant applications; awards up to $25,000

PHILADELPHIA—(September 17, 2018)—The Mayor’s Fund for Philadelphia has announced the beginning of its 2018 grant cycle, welcoming all Philadelphia charitable organizations, projects sponsored by charitable fiscal sponsors, and City departments and agencies to apply.

Grant awards will range between $5,000 and $25,000 and must demonstrate an impact related to at least one of the Kenney administration’s Five Policy Pillars:

  • Improve educational opportunities and outcomes for all of Philadelphia’s children.
  • Improve economic opportunities for all Philadelphians.
  • Improve public safety for all Philadelphians while treating residents with respect and dignity.
  • Operate government efficiently and effectively, and always with integrity.
  • Develop a diverse workforce that looks like Philadelphia and treat that workforce with respect.

The Board of the Mayor’s Fund seeks to support new and innovative approaches to addressing Philadelphia’s greatest areas of need. In the 2018 funding cycle, priority consideration will be given to proposals that:

  • Foster collaboration among organizations or stakeholders, rely on existing organizational or community assets, or address a problem using an inclusive, collaborative, and resourceful process
  • Pilot a new strategy or program to address an existing problem; including initiatives in the early stages of development
  • Seek to make a measurable impact in the lives of the proposal’s target population
  • Come from new applicants

“The Mayor’s Fund is proud to support charitable programs throughout the City that improve education, economic opportunity, and public safety in Philadelphia, as well as organizations who work toward more efficient government services and a diverse workforce,” said Laura Solomon, Grants Committee Chair and Founder of Laura Solomon & Associates. “We are particularly looking forward to receiving proposals from first-time applicants.”

The Board of Directors of the Mayor’s Fund seeks to be “open, transparent, and accountable in how we operate on every level,” said Rich Levins, volunteer Board Chair of the Mayor’s Fund and Vice President, Deputy General Counsel for Independence Blue Cross. “We are convinced this process will help us connect with charitable organizations and non-profits who may not know about the Mayor’s Fund.”   

Grant application submissions will be accepted through October 15. Applications will be reviewed by the Grants Committee and Board of Directors, and grantees will be notified by December 14.
